Outstanding Sam. That is a really nice piece of work.
If I made it I would guess veneer but you, I would say more in the order of segmented turning. Am I right? If so I guess most blocks would have to be accurately assembled first in two colours.
However you did it I’ll bet you loved the Pacific Ocean……. :-)

Brian, I burned the borders between the water and land and stained the lands. The burned border helped to stop the stain going over the border.
