Rick was just telling our 5-year-old grandson about adding the length of the tape measure body when he is measuring something. Our grandson was standing the tape on its end as the “0”. I think you get it .. but definitely something everyone should know and remember!
(oh, and did you know that the body measurement is printed on the side?)

Does the end of your measuring tape have a serrated edge? You can use this to make a mark by pressing it lightly into the wood.

good tips . The end of the tape also has a slot. Pound a nail in the wood and put the head of the nail in the slot. Pick a dimension and hold your pencil at that point and draw a circle

Remember: Not all measuring tools are created equal! The one is off by almost 1/8".

Once in a job, the apartment owner had a feng shui guru come to bless the place. He pulled out a tape measure with no lines or markings on it. I didn’t get what was going on there. My tip is make sure your tape measure has lines to measure. It helps me, anyway.

As noted above – not all tape measures are created equally, so make sure you use the same tape measure throughout.

Also, “burn” the first inch as the metal clip can introduce inaccuracies -start measuring from the 1 inch mark and then take 1 inch off the measurement.

Yeah, I’ve gone through a few Stanley Tapes, HOWEVER I still have my trusty 50-footer made by Lufkin Rule Co. My father bought it in the late ’50s or early 60s. And yes, I still use it anytime I need a long tape. Getting close to 60yr, I have to say this tape measure lasts!

When you go buy a quality tape get two of them, use one as your regular and keep one put away, every so often use the second tape to double check the cut measurements from your regular every day tape….especially when you drop your regular tape on the floor….. Because it will happen
