Just to follow up, I re-checked the torque and turning direction. Treat the nut just like any other, CCW to remove while holding the spindle steady with the hex wrench and cheater bar.
Torque wise, I could loosen with some grunt, but if you have a short pipe to use as a cheater bar on the wrench for a better grip, that'll help.
