I'm at a point where I work on what I feel like. Today I paint, tomorrow something else will happen. I'm playing with my toy, moving parts around to imagine the next thing. Things certainly not going in the exact sequence as these pics might suggest. Taking notes, still scheming dimensions and proportions on the go. Damm, this is fun! Stalling. I'm getting shit done, but I ain't making progress. I am getting answers to my questions about what's next. No real progress can happen until I finish the center section. It's the core.
I played around with a 4" lazy susan bearing. Right now this is 3 big pieces held together with threaded rod and clamps, and it rolls around good. But it didn't work out. Maybe brainfart #2, but it was a waste of about a week.
Regardless, I'm telling myself I have to finish the center or it's never going to be done.
Hey, you don't know me, but you don't like me ... Buck Owens
I'm a bearing hoarder. Keep thinking that a front car hub wheel bearing and cup would be excellent for something like this. Tapered roller bearing. Only $5 or so for the cheap ones, about 2" diameter. A shallow hole to hold the cup, metal washer with a bolt welded on that is just a tad bigger than the rear of the cups ID, then the bolt through the bearing to attach to the mounting post. The cup could be secured in the hole with small washers overlapping its edges.
