This is part 3 in a 3 part series: How it's made

  1. Axle cabs
  1. Axle pegs
  2. Steering wheel

From time to time I'm asked how I made some stuff for my models. In this series I will make a blog per component.

This time a steering wheel is made out of a wooden button and wooden clothing button
Comments are appreciated.

Terrific post.  I am just getting to the steering wheel of the AC Six and had planned to do a blog on my approach since I am changing up the design a bit.  You posted a lot of good information for us.  thank you.
Nice job Dutchy. What’s a clothing knob. Think I know what it is but I’m not sure.
That is clever and such an authentic look when done. Are then wooden buttons?
Thanks for sharing the process much appreciated.

Kerry - Working with wood, the smell the feel, is such a joy, its a meditation of sorts.

What a great way to make those!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Thanks for this series, Jan! Good knowledge!

May you have the day you deserve!

I get the idea that Google has not translated the word "knoop" (clothing knob/button) correctly. I do not know the English name myself and therefore the question to you what the correct English word is for the following:

To me it looks like a wooden button. I didn’t know you were from Holland. Where did you get that wooden button/knob? In America the word knob has something to do with doors or girls. Example: replace the door knob or she has nice knobs. Or look at the knobs on her. It’s a slang term when you refer to chicks.
Thanks TheWoodGuy. I changed it.

I bought it in a store were they sell clothing buttons to fix or to make something.
But it is also avaible at for example AliExpress. Search for wood button.
