Naturally it will all depend on you cache of shekels, and with SWMBO's approval, may I suggest you hook up with a laser that will cut at least a minimum of 3mm MDF (or at a pinch 1/4").
When push comes to shove, you can use the cut MDF (may need to laminate 2 layers of 3mm to get contact surface) as routing templates... engraving will then become a bonus.
If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD
