OK some information that may asssist, years ago when I was at De Gooses workshop he had a small horizontal sanding table , a bit like an a upside down planer.
It was made by a guy " Robert"somebody, and he also makes aftermarket helical cutter replacements for knife type thicknessers and jointers.

Now the sander was about 600 x 600 mm from memory and called a Sand flee, it had a spiral wrap abrasive accessed from lifting the table top off.
You maybe able to find it as a review or blog on LJs if you can find stuff there these days.
