I was going to take your advice about the Aqua Fill. That stuff is expensive man. I used thin crazy glue instead and it worked great.
I'm still on my first pint, goes a long way for the small stuff. The CG sounds promising, but I always get my fingers stuck to my face.

What type of laser do you use, and how do you prevent the thin pieces of wood from burning?
Diode laser. A 10W (optical power) at 40%. Even a small one will cut veneer.
I tape the veneer to a glass sheet, the laser doesn't burn the glass side then and the top (with air assist blowing across) also doesn't burn. The cut edges can be cleaned up easily with light sanding.
The hands look great. Did you try black?
I have a bunch of black hands, but the hour hand disappears with the dark Ipe behind it.
