Thanks Mike.  For some of the fragile parts I used some CA glue to make sure it stayed attached, otherwise it got a pretty healthy dose of shellac, but that was it.  I've done some live edge bowls in a similar fashion (minus the shellac) and they have been holding up pretty well too
