re: Squirrel Feeders

I thought I had a rat chewing on a electrical conduit on my patio so I set a rat trap.  Turned out it was a momma squirrel.  One of her babies tried to grab one of the sunflower seeds I baited it with. Turns out baby squirrels can scream. It was god-awful.  Putting it out of its misery wasn’t great either. Momma did take the rest of here brood somewhere else though.  I dusted the entire area with red pepper to make sure they didn’t come back.  Probably time to do that again.  

I find that squirrels tend to take over my bird feeders and scare the birds away.  The feeders bring in dozens of squirrels which is when they really become a nuisance so I started buying  bird seed called “Hot Meats” which is coated with hot pepper and that keeps the varmints off the feeders.
