I made something similar in Jan 2011 out of road kill Mango. But having 4 legs.
router planed it to an acceptable finish. I used round legs counter bored and recessed on the underside. held in on the top side with counter bored and recessed construction bolts (coach screws) hidden with grain matched plugs.
