Thanks All, I've been using a pencil taped to wood for years, I also have one of those fast cap compass looking scribes. I think this will be my go to from now on. I was working on one to be 3d printed but decided not to pursue it so if any of you all are interested, here is the basic idea. Still needs refinement though. Has different tips for different widths.
Figuring out how to do something you have never done is what makes a good challenge.
