Mike - I have a friend who has 25 years experience in CNC. He has a laser and router. The monogram was done on a laser. I traced the monogram into VCarve and he then imported it into Coral Draw which controls his laser. The wood was finished with 6 or 7 coats of polyurethane and then finished with up to around 2000 grit with micro mesh. It's then lasered and the engraving filled with high quality gold acrylic paint - lots of coats until it's proud of the surface. The excess is then sanded off, and the whole surface refinished as above with 3 or 4 coats of poly. The hole surface is sanded down to 3000 or 4000 micromesh and finished with wax polish.
