I have been wanting their No 6 fore plane for a very long time — just haven’t had the need since getting a Stanley No 6C which pulls its weight very well. One day I will spring for that Veritas No 6. I don’t like their Custom line of planes, I like the regular old bench planes like that one there. Though I do like to try and get Bubinga handles smuggled over the border whenever I can.

The right angle edge plane is a real handy fellow to have when you don’t want to bust out the shooting board to shoot some end grain. The skew on the blade makes short work of end grain smoothing. You are correct to pull it rather than push it — both work, but pulling it I find to be much easier. If ever you have a hard time adjusting the lateral on it, use the grub screws to your advantage — snug both screws up to the blade, back off the side you want to pivot to, then use the opposing screw to push the blade laterally. It works wonderfully to micro-adjust the lateral on that guy to take the perfect shaving.
