I know I'm still a fan. Any filling where paint is in the future gets Durhams from me. Screw it, drill it, sand it, glue it, whatever, and it doesn't pull out, even with intersecting pieces, that might take a hit, stays put. I have a few worktables that are topped with plywood, MDF, or just cheap pine. Any cracks or low spots I have been known to skim some Durhams on, and just put some poly over. Yep you can see it, but by then the top isn't pretty anymore, all I want is flat, and stable, they are that. Mighty be kinda fugly, but flat and stable. :-)
