Sorry, the purple isn’t inlay. It’s plum paint within a carved border. I intentionally left it a little thin, so the grain of the maple would show through. Guess I succeeded in making it look nice!

So far, there’s one for our kitchen, two for friends, and the other three will find owners before too long. The plan is for them to be used. Finish is 3-5 coats of tung oil, followed by 3-7 coats of Tried and True Varnish Oil. All food-safe. Each buffed out with steel wool before the next coat went on.

All should stand up pretty well to use, though the blue and yellow will show wear on the paint pretty quickly, but I think the guy getting that one will appreciate that wear.
