Thanks everyone, much appreciated. Splinter, this was hard maple which is why it took me 3 attempts to get a result which made me happy. Without removing most of the waste on the pin boards with the router, it was very difficult for me to get clean edges and my chisels dulled quickly with so much chopping. I also increased the thickness of the front lip of the half blind dovetail to 3/16” because any thinner was giving me problems with chipping out. And I have seen your work, if I can do it then you certainly can!
Thanks Pottz, I spent a month last year refining my method for hand cut dovetails. I watched lots of YT videos and ended up combining techniques from Rob Cosman, David Baron, and a couple more. If anyone is interested I’ll post my exact process. I have seen the process of dying curly maple to make the grain pop. It certainly achieves that goal, but I prefer the more subtle look without it.
