Thanks Splinter, while that log had a decent "diameter", the checks in it limited usable surface, especially working in end-grain.
I initially tried the 45° on the router... OK, for the long edges while still a stick, but the inside edges would make a manacurist cringe... I'd still have to address the 8 after the cut, inside edges... and it'd take more time to synchronose the required edges. Once I switch the brain off (easy for me) and go into autopilot, I can do at least 4 cubes per minute. that's, err???.... 240 PM... like my tape measure, don't trust the computer.
It's the inverted belt sander with 80G and a lot of downward hand pressure (stupid), that took chunks out of my finger tip when the belt spat the wood out... ripped out flesh doesn't bleed anywhere as much as cut skin... till minutes later when the pain sets in... SWMBO more concerned about blood on the floor.
If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD
