That finger is the primary concern... The solution may seem tricky, but once solved, easy to remember... unlike many of the other puzzles that one (me) forgets after about 30 minutes.
Using conventional tools, a dovetail/finger joint would be required as I don't have much faith in a simple butt joint even with CA.
