Yes. A very interesting and well written article Jeff.?
Thanks for that. I made the jump just over a year ago to take my hobby and passion and make it my full time job. I make it a point to do a few personal projects each year for my darling wife or our home and this keeps it from being work all the time. So far I’m not getting rich, but I am having the time of my life being in the woodshop every day. I even find myself “working” 7 days a week at times and I don’t mind. Pricing jobs is really a challenge at times and I have found that for the type of work that I do, furniture and built ins, I know how long most things will take me and most of the time the materials are not my concern as much as the time I need. If I start at $3000. Per week per project and then draw it up and always sleep on it, It usually works out for me. I know that’s not a very scientific or calculated way to look at it and it may not work for everyone, but it works for most custom projects. I do track my hours on all jobs and generally check back on them for similar jobs. I don’t mind sharing this with you all, but I don’t with my customers. I appreciate the input I gain from this site and all of you and enjoy our common bond. Thanks. ?
