Pipe and Book 1 ( continued )

I started by taking a 1 3/8 maple dowel to the router table to make
the mouth piece for the pipe . I set up a stop and a feather board and
angled them away from the fence at the bottom . Using a 1/2 inch
straight bit , I’ll reduce it’s diameter to about 3/4 inch .

It takes a lot more pressure to hold this down than square stock .
If I were making a lot of these ,I would use a concave block to hold
it down . It really wanted to ’ride ’ out of the cut , and the featherboard
was useless in stopping that lol .

Next is to turn the dowel clockwise , just like tightening a screw with
a screwdriver, only in slow motion , and advancing slowly into the cut .

The next step was to sand it smooth with 320 grit sandpaper.
A small strip of sandpaper and two fingers worked well for this

Next was to clamp the dowel to the front of the router table
and drill a 1/4 inch hole about two inches deep .

I clamped a smaller 3/4 inch maple dowel and drilled a 1/4 in
hole about 1-1 1/2 inch deep and cut it off , this cylinder thingy
will connect the bowl with the pipe .

Next is to drill a seat for that cylinder thingy ( upper left )

I installed a 3/4 inch forstner bit and the depth of cut needs
to be exactly 5/8 inch .

Next is take the large dowel to the miter saw

and cut it into 4 sections

The two center sections are aprox 4 inches , the two end pieces are aprox.
5 inches bare .

On the left (cap) section , I planed to drill a 3/8 inch hole to the seat, through
the seat , and stop just at the back of the seat . The two center sections can be drilled from both sides and the mouth piece section drilled towards the
mouthpiece .
