Desert ironwood

I'm making a set of kitchen knives for our retirement community arts and crafts fair; a chef's knife, a santoku and a paring knife.  I bought some desert ironwood scales.  I understand that this is commonly used for knifemaking.  This stuff is HARD!

My question is moisture content.  My capacitance meter says 18%, no correction factor in th ebook.   I heated a couple of scales to 140F for about 3 hours with a heat lamp and they lost only 1.8% by weight.

Given the incredible hardness and density, I am thinking there should be essentially no movement if I go as-is.  The inner faces will be coated with epoxy; the exterior finish will be CA.

Any opinions?

i think you should be good. ive never used it for knives but ive made some pens with it. a beautiful wood that just glows when polished. cant wait to see what you do.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Carey,

I think you will be good.

Just to be safe, cut to dimension and leave sit a day or two.  If no movement ur ready to go
