About three years ago I bought myself a set of plans for the 1951 Ford Pick up from Toys and Joys. The plans sat untouched for a long while. In Sept 2024 I was diagnosed with cancer which has taken two years to get some clear air. So come 2026 I decided I needed to just make a start on a personal project and see how we went. A model like this is not something you need much muscle for, however you do need to concentrate on what you are doing. When I was able and felt well enough I'd plod away on my new model.
I decided to use a variety of timbers. Some Tasmanian Blackwood formed the basis of the base/chasis. The fact the pieces are to scale was a new experience. I also decided to use Blackwood for the fenders and wheel wells. The pick up tray floor is a combination of American Maple and Aust Jarrah. Small 3/16 x ⅛ and then applied to a supporting board. Once it's all prepared the top or stripped pieces are then reduced down even further. A rather nice looking tray back once finished and sanded. For the remainder of the compartment I chose to use WA Jarrah. A hard timber from West Australia. The centre panel of the back tail gate I used American Maple again, which provides a pleasant contrast.
I regret not taking photos during construction, yes slack I know.

Thanks for the comments. I've a bad habit of thinking of photos way too late in the build however my logic is better late than not at all. Added to which I've managed to screw up the blog sequence haven't I. All that aside, the pleasure in seeing this thing come together has been great.
