Phone stand

Little walnut phone stand for my husband.  We like to watch YouTube on his phone and this is better than a prior frame stand we were using.  Modified design I saw on YouTube by DIY Montreal (https://youtu.be/duP5HKs4APo) - hers was actually a cutting board that could transition into a cookbook or iPad stand.

I took the easy way and just cut my upright board and then glued with center piece removed.  Dadoed the "insert" board into front face.

Used Odie's Oil which really made the walnut pop.

nice simple very functional project barb. those would make for a quick xmas gift for friends or co workers ?

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Nice work BB! Simple and effective and it looks like an excellent job blending the grain for the slot cut 👍

The walnut has some nice colors showing.
Pottz - was a pretty quick and easy project.  I haven't had much time in the shop so this was a nice easy item to do.  Definitely would make a nice gift without being too time intensive and is an opportunity to use up smaller pieces.  DIY Montreal has a nice description of her version which is much more detailed with the cutting board feature.  I plan to check out her other gift idea videos.
Nothing like a quick project that looks good and functions well. DIYMontreal has some nice projects
Splintergroup- the walnut was very "helpful" in hiding my cuts to create the opening.  Seemed easier than the router method used in the video (although hers was a bit more elegant!).

Dutchy - thanks!  I like making "around the house" projects.

Corelz125 - yes, I like functional projects that can be immediately put to use.  I need to check out more of the DIY Montreal videos - she has good ideas that seem doable.
nicely done.   does the job well.

Ron

Thanks Ron - much sturdier than the little frame stand we had been using!
I like it.

Good design

Petey

Thanks Petey.  Once again YouTube provides some inspiration for a project!
Really nice project! It's a great idea for a small gift.

No name noobie here

Nicely Done Barb. I like the fact that is can be taken apart and stored in a drawer easily, and the Walnut looks great.

YRTi - thanks.  Was a surprise project I gave to my husband, but really is for use by both of us!

Eric - I liked DIY Montreal's design - just adapted it to a much more simple plan.  Hard to go wrong with walnut.  This was from some "discount table" cutoffs I bought recently.

Steve - thanks!
It looks fine. Creative design and the through slot looks perfectly cut. I usually don’t like the cooler off brown color of walnut but yours  has a warm glow. Was the wood already like that or do you think your finish attributes to the warmth of the wood?
The design was inspired from DIY Montreal's project (I kept it more simple).  The slot wasn't actually cut as I just cut the pieces and glued back together leaving the necessary gap.  The grain helped to hide this.

The walnut was pretty, but the Odie's Oil made the color deeper.  I like that finish as it has a very natural look and is easy to apply.
That's real nice! I've some wood looking for a use. My phone has a stand in the back, but it lays wayyy back.

Nicely done

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Thanks Steven and Ryan.  One of those little projects that felt doable after being out of the shop for a while.  Plus, it is used a lot (more by me than my husband who was the "gift recipient" 🤷‍♀️)
very lucky Husband GR8 JOB 😍😎👍
