Very nice. How is alder to work with, what does it compare to? It looks similar to poplar unfinished, how does it take to stain?

Great looking chairs!
Hi Thorreain Alder is fairly soft, say a little harder than sugar pine and finishes simalar to pine too( It’s susceptible to blotching).I recommended against alder to but the client is a wood worker and had already made his table out of alder and wanted the grain to match. He finished them himself(not shown) an I cautioned him about it blotching but he said they really liked the blotchie look.
Thanks everyone for your nice comments.

These are beautiful! I have only built one chair- a prototype for a restaurant client who then changed his mind about wanting custom chairs! : (

Thanks ,That’s the way it goes in the custom furniture business, once they hear how much it cost then many folks are happy with a product made overseas,at least they think they will be happy with that kind of product,
