I built this bench for some customers who were looking for a bench to put on the dock of their new house. They were just looking for something to sit on to relax and enjoy the beautiful view from their dock. I built this bench with pressure treated lumber and cedar. The bench seat lifts up creating a storage area underneath. The frame of the bench is wrapped with tongue and groove cedar boards to help keep the storage area watertight. Underneath the seat, I put a sheet of aluminum to help keep water from coming through the bench seat, and put some weatherstripping around the edge for an additional seal. I also built these cupholders that slid over the arm of the chair. They have a slot for a drink and also a slot for holding a stemmed wine glass.
I finished with a few coats of outdoor deck sealant to help protect it from the hot southern sun and rain. It was a very fun project, but wow was it heavy! Took some real work to get it down the long dock!
Good combination and looks super!
