Here is a new crochet beanie that I originally made in a lovely lavender and posted about on my Creations postings at http://crochet.community/creations/1077-soft-purple-hat-and-scarf. I had been asked in the comments if I planned to sell the pattern — well, it is such a simple pattern that it would almost seem presumptuous to ask money for it! I had given the original set, beanie and scarf to a young friend so I have recreated the beanie here with instructions of how to make it.
I realize the contest rules changed for the Hats/Beanies Contest and that a pattern is not required, but I did promise a pattern in my previous creations entry so…
create a magic ring or chain 5 and join to form ring
Round 1 ch 3, 11 dc in ring, sl st in top of ch 3 (ch 3 counts as dc)
Round 2 ch 3, 2dc in each dc from previous row, (24 sts) join with sl st
Round 3 ch 3, 1 dc in base of ch 3, 1 dc in next stitch and 1 dc in next, 2 dc and one dc in next two repeat sequence between * * around until you reach the ch 3, sl st to join
Round 4 ch 3, 1 dc in base of chain and 1 dc in next 3, *2 dc in next st and one dc in next 3 * repeat sequence between * * around until you reach the ch 3, sl st to join
Round 5 ch 3, 1 dc in base of chain and 1 dc in next 4, *2 dc in next st and one dc in next 4 * repeat sequence between * * around until you reach the ch 3, sl st to join
Round 6 ch 3, 1 dc in base of chain and 1 dc in next 5, *2 dc in next st and one dc in next 5 * repeat sequence between * * around until you reach the ch 3, sl st to join
NOTE, to make a large size beanie, add Round 7 as follows, otherwise skip to Round 8.
Round 7 ch 3, 1 dc in base of chain and 1 dc in next 6, *2 dc in next st and one dc in next 6 * repeat sequence between * * around until you reach the ch 3, sl st to join
Round 8 ch 3 then make a dc in the previous stitch, skip one , dc in next and dc in the skipped stitch, here is a link that describes the stitch much clearer than I can http://www.allfreecrochet.com/Tutorials/How-to-Make-a-Cross-Stitch when you get back to the first x stitch, join with a slip stitch.
Round 9 ch 1, sc in next stitch and sc in each stitch around, join with sl st
Round 10, repeat round 8
Round 11, repeat round 9
Round 12 , repeat round 8
Round 13, repeat round 9
continue in this manner until round 17
Round 18, repeat round 9, fasten off. weave in ends
NOTES: I used a 4.00 mm hook which makes this a fairly tight stitch, if you use a larger size or looser stitch, you should do only 5 (for small) or 6 (for medium) increase rounds at the top of the hat.
My original hat in lavender used a baby yarn so I actually did 7 increase rounds which made the hat a small or a snug medium size.
