My uncle John had a hobby woodworking. He made items and his wife would sell his wares at flea markets and craft fares. He always said to actually make a profit one must make no less than fifty of an item or make it so rare that their would only ever be one made. He stuck with the fifty plus most of his woodworking life and made a respectable income. He along with my dad had both retired from the navy then both retired again from the coastguard so they had good pensions. John made a decent living tho from woodworking. The trick is to find an item that people want, then make 50 like the big shops do.
