This topic is great! I also enjoyed reading everyone’s comments and taking in everyone’s views. I must admit one of the reasons I love this web site is that everyone is honest but they don’t bash each other’s opinions. As most on here know I’m new to wood working. Im all self taught so far and I live to far away to take woodworking classes. I buy some magazines but I’m more of a visual person. Yes we have the internet to watch videos etc which is awesome. That again takes time. I want to learn joinery mostly dovetail. I was at my sisters the other day and looked at an antique cabinet desk and was amazed at the joinery still holding strong. As they say look at the drawers of a unit and that will tell you a lot. I want to learn these joinery something awful but it takes time to learn I will get there but for now I’ve been using pocket holes. Adventually our work will be considered antique what will the younger generation think of our work? Will the wood workers that do hand made joinery be worth more then pocket holes? I don’t know the answer to this but my opinion is if I was to buy a antique piece I would look for hand joinery. Then again if I like the style and look of a piece and it has pocket holes and is standing up to time I would still buy it. So all in all I agree with everyone’s point of views..I also wanted to say thank you to everyone for sharing all your projects and knowledge on this site and thank you to all the admins on here for their hard work.
