If you really have a big rodent problem a 5 gallon bucket with a gallon of antifreeze and beer can suspended over it sideways on a dowel so  that it rolls easily when a mouse or rat climbs out to lick the peanut butter off of it.  Lean something against the bucket to make it easy for them to climb up and smear just enough PB on it to leave a sent trail for them to follow.
