Somehow, during the past few years, I seem to have lost the ability to consistently turn a hook on scrapers; tried the remedies, but still not consistent. I ran across this little carbide burnisher on the Lee Valley site and ordered it - $40 seems a bit steep for such a tiny device, but...... There is a larger size available. Its about 3 in. (7.5 cm) in length, and can be purchased with handles, or shop-made.
I've been fairing the curves on some Queen Anne legs, using the old reliable #80 and this thing makes sharpening a breeze. Can't wait to use it on the #12 and cards.
