We all use pencils. a couple of years ago, I ran across these, and have used nothing else since. I use them for everyting, even outdiside the shop. Made by Pentel, available at art stores, including Hobby Lobby.
The knurled grip is what makes them so comfortable to use; a secure grip with no sliding. The thin tip allows it to ride against any ruler or straightedge.
They are available in 0.5; 0.7 and 0.9 mm. The 0.7mm is most useful. I go to the 0.5 for really precise marking, and the 0.9 when I need a wide mark.
Interesting. I see them also at Amazoo, and at Hobby Lobby they run $5.99 for each size 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, and 0.9. Amazoo for the 0.5 it's 13 bux.. I hate it when the evil empire isn't lowest price, NOT.
I use some "iffy" pencils I bought at the evil empire, and don't like them much at all. Thanks for the tip.
Love these style pencils. Use them all throughout school, 0.5mm being my favorite, though I'm tending to break the lead more often. Might have to go up to the 0.7.
These are nice. I've never used them for woodworking but I like them. Splinter, did you replace the lead? The pens come with Super Hi-Polymer Leads and they are pretty tough so If you need to replace the lead, you should get the same one instead of a random one.
I have a "lifetime" supply of leads that I bought many years ago in school (early 1980's). Wide variety of hardness for various paper types, but usually stick to the 2H. Brands are mostly Pentel and Koh-I-Noor.
Oh I see. I use the 2H, too, and for me I remember I bought the super high polymer thing and it made a difference but actually, now my wife told me the one I use is called "Pentel Ain Stein Mechanical Pencil Lead". This one is even tougher. But, if you have so many already, I don't know if it's worth buying new ones...
Actually I use the pencils everywhere, but I think for the shop the stronger leads would be worth it. I have no idea what the old stuff I have is made from. It is rather brittle now that I look at a piece. Doesn't bend much at all before snapping. Of course the same can be said for my old body as well!
