New surface cleanup

So I just opened the scroll saw I bought the the table top is "stained." I tried cleaning with WD40 per the equipment manual.  Doesn't seem to help.  😕

Any suggestions?

Is the top aluminum or iron?
If the stain appears to be on the surface (versus corrosion), I would try more "solventy" cleaners like lacquer thinner or carburetor cleaner.
Steel wool or synthetic pads with a solvent or mild abrasive like automotive rubbing compound (red is the coarser stuff) can also help with stubborn stains.
Actually, I think I'm going to have to return it as the table is not able to be tightened into position.
What model is it? Where did you get it?
I got it at the Grizzly customer appreciation day sale in Springfield Missouri.  It is W1870.
hmmmm doesn't sound like they appreciate you barb ? yeah return it !

I called Grizzly and the person was super nice.  Hopefully it will not incur any restocking since it doesn't seem to be fully operational.  Was concerned when opening it that the table was on an angle.  Initially excused that with the thought it was for space in shipping.  Oh well, will just have another drive (its about 30-35 minutes from home) to return it next week.  Sad as I was excited for a new tool.🤷‍♀️
I'll bet they will exchange it.  Hopefully you just come home with another one that is clean and in working order.

I don't know if this was a "clearance item" as it was a very good price (typical was around $260 and it was $159 today at the sale).
If it's just the stain can try some sand paper and WD 40. If the table doesn't lock in place it can't be used correctly
Cannot get it to lock in place at all.  That's a deal breaker for sure.  The stain is also frustrating and I'm wondering if that is related to the table being tilted so much that the protective stuff they put on those surfaces wasn't able to adhere.  Will see what they say when I return it.
That is a bummer.

I hope they take care of you.

Petey- I hope so.  The tent sale was yesterday so knew that would be too chaotic to try a return.  Plan to go in early this week and see what they say.
Was able to return it.  They offered to set up a different one, but I just wanted a refund at this point.
Watch Craigslist likely.
