World's biggest handplane

David Barron has a bunch of great instructional Youtube videos but he also occasionally demonstrates some pretty cool hand tools like this 5ft long coopers plane:

It probably isn’t the biggest in the world, nor can I see it getting much use these days but would be a great conversation piece. Maybe our next WoodworkingWeb Award competition should be who can make the largest, functional handplane?

Pretty cool, I didn’t know they made them that large. Thanks for sharing:)

Wild and cool.

What a monster! looks like something if fell would give you an instant web foot.
Pssst Hail the electric Jointer! but it certainly is not a hand tool
There is no doubt somebody out there who could make something even bigger
but dont be encouraging them! imagine what will be turning up

Regards Rob

Wow, very interesting for sure.

I own a large plane that is between 4 to 5 feet long. I thought it was very interesting to find out that this plane was used in a stationary position, upside down and supported by removable legs.
Unlike other handplanes this one you actually push your work piece across the inverted plane similar to a motorized woodworking joiner.
