Wife, dog-owner, crochet addict looking forward to making new friends who share this common interest. I love amigurumi, but am hoping to learn some new stitches (crocodile, tunisian, etc.).

I've been crocheting on and off for about 20 years, but only got serious with it recently, in early 2011, after my Dad passed away. I found crocheting was like meditation: it took my mind off of things and was a great stress-reliever. A few months later, I took some classes at Michael's and practiced stitches at every spare moment. In 2013, I shattered my ankle (and broke the other) and was home for 2 months from work to recover (I'm a little accident-prone). My hubby made sure I had plenty of yarn and some new crochet books to keep me going, and that's when I started doing amigurumi. Now I'm rarely without a hook in my hand when I'm not at work. Crochet has helped me get through some very tough times and has brought a lot of smiles to people I love, which makes me immensely happy. And despite being a somewhat shy introvert, it's really helped me out of my shell and allowed me to connect with some wonderful people, both online and in person through the local knit and crochet group I joined in early 2015.

I can't say enough good things about the craft. For people who are beginners or are thinking of picking up a hook for the first time, I would definitely recommend sticking with it. The long-term benefits you get from crochet go way beyond the finished project!
