My name is dick gerard. I am AAW member 00013. I was a particpant at Arrowmont in 1985 and while there I badgered David Ellsworth and Sandra Blaine into letting me give a presentation to the members about forming a woodturning organization. Hence the birth of AAW. I am a woodturner-sculptor-artist. I use the lathe as my primary shaping tool but I also use, texturing tools, pyrography, air brush, carving, and any tool to get the finished product to be what I envisioned. I have been turning since 1983. In 1994 (?) I was a Niche finalist in woodturning. In 2004 I received AAW's Lifetime Membership Award for contributions to the field of woodturning. Besides woodturning I also enjoy art of most any kind,, philosophy, photography ( I attended Brooks Institute of Photography), science fiction (especially the entire Dune series), movies, and most of all, my loving and support wife of 38 years. I will be happy to share what i have learned from my years turning and being shop assistant to Mike Hosaluk, david Ellsworth, ray key and many others.
