the second one is pretty protected on three sides.

The first one is more open.

We’ve had some nasty weather – but not a heavy snow.
For winter, we plan on putting a hoop house over it. We hope that any snow falling off the roof will hit the hoop house plastic, which will break the fall from the glass.

We are also fortunate that the glass windows that we are using is really heavy duty. (Just the little window in #2 is a lighter window glass.)
