Dough rolling board or board rolling in the dough, tough choice!

Is there a wood type (open or closed grain) that is a no-no?

Looks good Lar! 

Have made rolling pins from maple.   Worked fine.    No finish, let the Chef decide on his treatment of wooden objects in his/her kitchen.     Most did pretty much what Pottz did.
