 The hole to accommodate the hardware was done on my DP with a jig and the piece had to be on end, even with clamping it was difficult to be exact.... 

As I was drafting a comment of where's the pictures of the jig???, that Dowel-it made me realise I had another type of probably similar jig hidden somewhere that I could use on a project I'm currently arguing with... problem is I'll have to find some local Yankee soil to use it on, as it is in imperial.

Oh yeah... nice project!

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD
