Hi Awsum55. Yes I did make all the brass pieces.

Here is how it works. That very top piece has to swing out of the way to let that piece below it slide back out of the dove tail and swing clear of the grease pit in the bottom. That little round disc blocks the top piece from sliding back when the box is upright. So the trick is to turn the box upside down so the brass disc drops out o the locking hole in the top., Then you can swing it sideways and allow the second piece to slide back. 

The original box like this designed by Abdel had a square piece of steel for the lock and used a square hole. I found the round hole and disc were a lot easier to make and do the same thing
