I don't know if you planned but I like how you build one with similar color wood and another with different colors. Both have a nice character! 

As for finishes, I use oil/wax combo(walnut oil/beeswax/carnauba wax) that I made by myself. It's cheap and easy to apply so I use it for pretty much all my projects:)
