Just a couple of Poplar end tables

I have some poplar laying around and the girlfriend asked me to make an end table. I had enough for two. It’s the first time I’ve ever done polyurethane. I think it turned out pretty well.

Looks like you succeeded in the task, a nice clean design. Well done.

Turned out great.  I like poplar and you found some with nice color contrast.
Thanks Eric. I learned a lot but have much more to learn about wood finishing.
You can always try different types of finish. I use Danish Oil followed by Howards Feed and Wax. Recently I have tried Minwax Wipe on Poly, that leaves a nice finish, just takes some time because it goes on in light coats that are built up.

Follow along and you will see others use a variety of finishes on their projects. We are here to help others out and learn from each other. And even borrow ideas from each other.

look great and as eric said were all here to help each and gain skills we dont have. as for finishes im an oil finish guy, easy to apply and gives great results.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

The tables look great.

Welcome to Craftisian!
Thanks Steve
I feel right at home here.
I don't know if you planned but I like how you build one with similar color wood and another with different colors. Both have a nice character!

As for finishes, I use oil/wax combo(walnut oil/beeswax/carnauba wax) that I made by myself. It's cheap and easy to apply so I use it for pretty much all my projects:)

No name noobie here

Yeah, I think this will be the last time I use polyurethane. The smell is still very strong and it has been over a week in a well ventilated garage.
Nice tables,
Nothing better than the feeling of making something yourself.
(pre-cat lacquer guy myself)  Not that it's always the best,  just fast and easy.

Figuring out how to do something you have never done is what makes a good challenge.
