Thanks James! Yes, I sanded the surface but still... but it's okay:)
As for chisel, I usually use normal western chisels(Irwin/Narex) but I just happened to get a reasonably priced Japanese chisel that actually worked well! It's made out of Japanese shirogami steel no2, which is often used by a good end chisel there.
