A box

I didn't join the box swap but I happened to make a box at this timing...

I don't know I felt being able to cut a dovetail joint is kind of a requirement/criteria of hand tool woodworking so I recently practiced a dovetail joint and now it is time to practice a miter dovetail joint (I was asked if I can cut it a couple of times in person so....).

I think I did okay for this.

And few weeks(or months?) ago, I saw people were playing with a lazer thing here and I wanted it to print my logo thing on wood. However, I wasn't sure how often I would use it and I couldn't decide which one to go with(good one or cheepo) so I ended up buying a branding iron to see how it goes.

For now, I'm happy with it:)

Nice dovetails, tight joints and looking good.    Box looks pretty good also.   Nice work.

Ron

You succeeded Yrti, the box, looks great and the dovetails are spot on, mitered too. Really liking that double bevel on the top too. Well done.

Ron, Thank you.  I'm getting a little bit confident!

Eric,  My project was done before your blog showing your creative handle style and I was like oh I should've put a little more effort on mine... haha! Thank you for showing the plug technique, too!

Great craftsmanship. I noticed you used hand tools only. Nice dovetails too. Your bench is something I might build. It’s looks very useful.

I gave your video the thumbs up and prescribed.

What type of chisels do you use? I like your branding iron. Did your try sanding off some of the the brand to reveal more detail?

James McIntyre

Thanks James! Yes, I sanded the surface but still... but it's okay:)

As for chisel, I usually use normal western chisels(Irwin/Narex) but I just happened to get a reasonably priced Japanese chisel that actually worked well! It's made out of Japanese shirogami steel no2, which is often used by a good end chisel there.

Access YRTi!

DTs look flawless, miters are icing in the cake!
Thanks Splinter! I should practice it more so I can call it as a basic joint, haha, maybe in 10 years...

Nice work, YRTi! Mitered dovetails are a nice trick to have in your bag, and it looks like you’ve got them down.

May you have the day you deserve!

Thanks Dave! I'm not that good yet, haha. I have to pay extra attention or things can easily go wrong.

Getting them right once like this tells you that you can get them right, though. That’s an important step, and with each box you make using dovetails, the amount of extra attention needed will decrease.

May you have the day you deserve!

YRTi,

Great job on the joints!

Petey

Real nice work on the dovetails. Good looking box
Dave, Thank you for the encouragement! I'll keep practicing:)
Petey, Corelz, Thank you!!
