Depends on the media used. Ground corn cob is very gentle and so are walnut shells. It really only attacks soft stuff.

Sounds like you have a dual drum unit? 

My drum is the sander... however if the tumbler attacks soft stuff, is there one the size for my gut?

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD
