Several times I said to myself, I wish I was there to give you a hand. But you are recovering well. more smiles, sorry.
I would probably just use some rockhard water putty for those dents. Hide glue and dust may be alright, I have no experience with it. Something that sands easy and won’t make any dips in the surrounding material as you try to sand it flush. Ripples are going to be your enemy as you try to veneer it. Try to get everything as flat as possible.
