Hi Bruce. I did not see any change at all in the mesquite from bringing it up north. One of the reason I like mesquite so much is that it is stable after it is reasonably dry. I find cracks in a lot of it but that lends itself to inlays! In old mesquite the bugs bore oval holes inĀ that bark and sap wood and they can live 35 years in there according to John Goodwin at the saw mill . I have turned through some of them and got splattered. John once made a fork shaped natural edge table for a lady and after 2 weeks she called John and said " I can hear something in that table at night when it is real quiet" It was the bugs chewing away. He had to strip off the bark and some of the sapwood and put on new contrasting edging!!
I have piles of yellow dust under mesquite I have stored in my barn!!
