"au contraire" JJ... If made out of solids, its 6 quadrilaterals with 2 dados in each... with your laser, any facing is open slather. Solids would not require lamination (and dowels). For me it's just easier to cut out of MDF, engrave and glue pieces together in the warmth of my office during winter. The sizes are proportional and can be to any chosen "unit"... all extra needed is the dados have to be a snidge wider than the thickness.
If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD
