Splint, yes “luxury vinyl” planks. They are .195” thick and we used an underlayment called “QuietWalk Versa” . It feels padded and quiet when you walk across the floor.
In our basement we installed luxury vinyl plank over the concrete. For that we used a vapor barrier for obvious reasons. The basement has a harder, feel and sound when walking across it. We installed it in 2017 and have had no issues.
We went waterproof upstairs as the poodle who has a beard drinks from the far side of his bowl and water would be everywhere. During the remodel I investigated that issue and we bought the Slopper stopper water bowl for him. It works great. No more wet floor or laps when he sets his head down.
