Pottz, we had taken all the existing carpet out when we bought the house and replaced with oak hard wood flooring. The living/ dining had some thinner spaced oak which was about 3/16” below the new wood so going over that and 
the existing in the kitchen brought everything to level without tearing out the existing. Thus the vinyl plank
